About

WHY Duck Soup Designs

I’m standing in the drug store reading all the father’s day cards. Not one of them fits the relationship I have with my dad. Close enough to give him a card. Difficult enough that praise and gratitude don’t cut it. Where are my words?

I’m sitting in the back row of the church at her funeral. Her husband sobs quietly. I want to say something. Where are my words?

My son is graduating. I’m proud as any mom would be. But more than that. More what? Where are my words?

He cheated on me. I was angry. I was hurt. I was determined.
I am recovered. I am strong. But I want closure. Where are my words?

Your baby is here. But something went terribly wrong. I don’t know what, but it’s the kind of wrong that nobody seems to talk about. I want to say something. I want to connect. I want to help. Where are my words?

Even in the world of expression, there are limits to the amount of emotion that the world deems acceptable to share. We hide our true feelings behind used-up words and clichéd phrases: thoughts and prayers, all the best, wish you were here.

But why can’t we say what we truly feel? Why can’t we share our real selves with each other?

Because sometimes, we don't know how we feel. Sometimes we don't know what to say.

We need the words that match the emotion. We need to connect. Deeper. With more meaning. With more heart. With more honesty.

Duck Soup Designs. Because the thought does count. And the words do matter.

WHY Alex Stacey

This is where she started. With a need to connect. With a desire to help others connect.

Widowhood and grief brought lessons in life, love, relationships, feelings, expression, compassion, and gratitude.

A lifetime of entrepreneurial spirit has bestowed some decent organizational, creative, and ambitious skills.

Family and retirement have lent the rare and wonderful luxury of life's greatest trifecta: enough time, enough energy, and enough stability, finally, all at the same time - to be able to share, to help, and to enjoy the deeper connections that make life so much more meaningful.

Her candid honesty and fantastic sense of humour aren't her worst traits, either.

Duck Soup Designs is the outlet for all of these energies.
